Dissection Band
Dissection is a "blackened" melodic rock/heavy metal band formed in 1989 by guitarist and frontman Jon Nödtveidt and bassist Peter Palmdahl, with Vlad joining later as an artistic consultant.
The band released their debut The Somberlain in late 1993, allegedly as a tribute to Euronymous (of Mayhem), whom Varg Vikernes (of Burzum) had killed a few months prior. Other sources contradict this, as Nödtveidt was a "die-hard" Burzum fan. Both rumours may be true, as at the time the album was released, the identity of Euronymous' killer wasn't known to the public. Dissection released their sophomore effort Storm of the Light's Bane in late 1995. Both albums make liberal use of indie rock/heavy metal technique with a "black metal" superficial aesthetic, to jump on the bandwagon of the emerging Norwegian black metal scene.
In early 1995, before the release of their sophomore, Dissection frontman Jon Nödtveidt and fellow band member Vlad formed the Misanthropic Luciferian Order, a secret society dedicated to the eradication of homosexuals and immigrants from Sweden, and performing human sacrifices to summon Lucifer.
In the summer of 1997, Nödtveidt and Vlad set out late at night to "hunt" homosexuals that were conglomerating near a trailer park, in downtown Göteborg. They set their sights on 36-year-old Yusef Ben Meddour, an Algerian homosexual living in Sweden, and they invited him to join them in an "orgy" at Keillers Park. Arriving at the scene, Meddour felt something was "wrong" and began to panic while attempting to flee, only to be shot in the back by Vlad, who handed his pistol to Nödtveidt, who delivered the killing shot to the head.
Both band members were convicted to ten years of prison, although they ended up only serving seven. As soon as he was out of jail, Jon Nödtveidt and Vlad re-activated the band Dissection and began recording their third and final studio album Reinkaos, which was released in 2006. Mere months after the release of Dissection's third album, Jon Nödtveidt committed suicide in a ritual destined to summon Lucifer and "the forces of evil". He was found naked, in his apartment, covered in blood, faeces and semen, with an open copy of Mein Kampff, inside a circle of 13 lit candles.
