Enslaved Band
Enslaved is a "blackened" metalcore outfit founded in 1991 by guitarist Ivar Bjørnson and bassist Grutle Kjellson, who also handles vocals on most Enslaved albums.
While Enslaved played self-styled "progressive" black metal on their 1994 debut Vikingligr Veldi, released on the infamous Deathlike Silence Productions of Mayhem's Euronymous, the band soon began to veer into a more rock and emo direction starting with their sophomore Frost, and culminating with the 1997 metalcore disasterpiece Eld, on which they completely shed their black metal stylings and openly come out as a wannabe mix between Slipknot and My Chemical Romance.
Future albums from this band, while terribly risible musically, nonetheless managed to garner controversy due to the band's frequent use of Norse and Viking thematic content, something that has had them labelled "NSBM" (National Socialist Black Metal) and crypto-White Supremacist on more than one occasion. These appellations are somewhat disputed by fans of the band.
