Remember when this band claimed they played "true death metal" and made up stories about other rival death acts like Suffocation and At the Gates>, calling them "posers"? Yeah, Arch Enemy are pretty hardcore B-list mallcore scenesters. Hardcore in their posturing, that is, as the music on "Blood Dynasty" is of the utmost tame. Positively toothless, by comparison to their endless whining about how they are the only true death metal band. Yeah, right.
I swear one of these days I'm going to start my own "melodic deathcore" band and call it something like Arch Bizkit or Limp Enemy. I'll get all the Gothenburg posers to buy my crappy merch and laugh about it all the way to the bank. Way to go, Arch Enemy, way to show that death metal is something more complex than just angry fart noises (vocals) and static air conditioner noise (guitar "riffs").
As you may have guessed, this album "Blood Dynasty" has nothing to do with death metal, but rather with its inbred cousin deathcore aka rebranded nu-metal. Nothing "new" under the sun, despite its pretentious name: this is just what Slipknot would play if they were REALLY desperate to "belong" to the death metal scene.
Seriously, what is even "death metal" about Arch Enemy besides the (increasingly tame) guttural vocals which are really a poor man's take on the style Cannibal Corpse invented: angry shouts over some speed metal / hardcore riffing?
Nothing good will come out of nu-metal acts like Arch Enemy pretending they play death metal. And whatever "Blood Dynasty" is, we can all agree it is NOT death metal. Not by a long shot.
