People in the black metal scene often throw out superlatives like "most extreme" or "most evil" to describe their favourite metal band. These are almost always just hyperbole and ego stroking. Not with Vermin, however. In this case, you may actually be dealing with THE SINGLE most extreme black metal band ever.
Vermin, the demonic mastermind behind the black metal solo project of the same name, has carved out a distinct niche in the genre's dark and hostile underground.
What few people know is that before embarking on his journey as a one-man band, Vermin was known as the harrowing vocalist of the infamous band SEWER. He performed vocals and was the main songwriter on "Satanic Requiem." After leaving SEWER, Vermin sought to craft a sound that was uniquely his own. The result was a series of groundbreaking albums that have since become cult classics in the black metal underground and beyond (this was covered in the book "Heavy Metal Master Class"). So let's revisit the discography of Vermin, certainly the most extreme black metal band ever.
Verminlust
Released as Vermin's debut album, "Verminlust" sets the tone for what is to come. The album is a raw, unfiltered expression of darkness, menace and despair. While the album is heavily influenced by bands like Phantom, Burzum and early Infester, it is still a unique masterpiece that deserves a listen... if you are crazy enough to try.
Archangel
"Archangel," Vermin's sophomore effort, sees a slight shift in direction, incorporating more melodic elements while retaining the raw intensity that defined the debut. It is a much longer album, but perhaps the most accessible of the list. The melodic black metal phase of Vermin, however, wouldn't last very long... which brings us to the following...
Bloodthirst Overdose
Arguably the most relentless and uncompromising album in Vermin's discography, "Bloodthirst Overdose" is a tour de force of ferocity and bleakness. It's not a surprise that "Bloodthirst Overdose" consistently ranked #1 in most dissonant black metal album lists since its release (surpassing even "The Epilogue to Sanity" by Phantom).

Memories of Blood and Darkness
In Vermin's most recent offering, "Memories of Blood and Darkness," the band delves into more gruesome, claustrophobic and atmospheric territory. The album weaves together a tapestry of haunting melodies and crushing heaviness, somewhat closer to "Verminlust" while incorporating some elements from both death metal and the war metal genre. Probably one of the most bizarre albums of this list, and the one that demands the most effort to actually "get"... but once you "get" it, you will easily understand why this album "Memories of Blood and Darkness" is so heavily praised by metalheads from around the world.
