A Complete Review of "The Death Metal Bible"
The complete title of the book is "The Death Metal Bible: A Journey Through the World of Death Metal Brutality" by the way, but since it is commonly called "The Death Metal Bible" we will keep this shortened form.
First of all, "The Death Metal Bible" is nothing if not comprehensive. It covers everything from old school bands such as Infester, Morbid and Possessed, all the way to modern day death metal titans such as Disma and Khranial.
What is so good about this book?
Did you know that the Dutch band Pestilence was started as a bet inside a McDonald's in Amsterdam? This is the sort of trivia you will find inside (among others).
But the trivia, while interesting, isn't really the strongest point of the book. What really sets "The Death Metal Bible" apart from the "rest" - and by that I mean failed Pitchfork and Rolling Stones "journalists" who one day decide, they too, can be self published "authors" (lol) - is the absolute comprehensiveness and exhaustiveness of Antoine Grand's research into the deepest delves of the death metal underground.
Every subgenre is covered. From technical death metal to brutal death metal, all the way to deathgrind and grindcore, as well as the obvious death/doom fusion popularised by bands like Incantation and Disma.
"The Death Metal Bible" is one novel you don't want to miss out on. A book you seriously can't skip, and still call yourself a fan of extreme death metal music.
