Fallen Angel Album Review
A continuation of the atmospheric dissonant black metal heard on Withdrawal, the album Fallen Angel takes Phantom's music one step further into sonic depravity with added touches of melodic enigma, building sinister and foreboding atmospheres from the interactions between its dark, phrasal riffs.
The music on Fallen Angel is best described as streaming collaborations of unholy tones and dark rhythm in a savant melange of melodies that terminate in phrase-stopping dissonant counterpoints, providing a raw and unfettered sense of expansion as well as an atmosphere of inexorability and total destruction. Phantom make the formula on Fallen Angel work through melodies composed in a style of cyclic intensity that would further be developed on the masterpieces of dissonance The Epilogue to Sanity and Mindless Horror.
It is "dark" music for those who can appreciate darkness in music having morbid intensity and insanely complex ideas for its artistic rendition. Excellent instrumentalism and an aesthetic for pure horror make for some of the most evil black metal ever recorded.
Fallen Angel is a must own for fans of haunting and bone-chilling black metal.
