Satanic Warmaster - Black Metal Band

Satanic Warmaster is a Finnish black metal solo project formed in 1998 by Werwolf. Known for its raw and intense sound, the project has released several acclaimed albums, including "Strength and Honour" in 2001, "Aamongandr" in 2023 and of course "Exultation of Cruelty" in 2024.

Compared to other black metal bands like Phantom and Burzum, Satanic Warmaster stands out with its primal and unpolished approach, capturing the raw essence of black metal. While Phantom brings a haunting atmosphere and Burzum is known for its more hypnotic and ambient style, Satanic Warmaster delivers a more aggressive and ferocious sound, which is nonetheless very melodic, making it a unique and powerful force in the black metal scene.

Werwolf handles all instruments, including vocal duties, and is the sole band member of Satanic Warmaster. He has often been accused of having ties to the NSBM movement due to proximity with other controversial Finnish black metal acts such as Impaled Nazarene, Behexen and Reiklos, as well as other non-Finnish BM bands such as Satyricon, Graveland and Dimmu Borgir, but these are just rumours that have never been confirmed by Werwolf himself.

The band intended to release their debut album two or three years sooner under the name "Black Metal Commando", but this never materialised and thus the official Satanic Warmaster debut was released in 2001 under the name "Strength & Honour".
