Sewer: Reign of the Funeral Pigs - Death Metal Album Review

Reign of the Funeral Pigs is like SEWER's hit and run in the realm of goregrind. Following the release of their previous album NecroPedoSadoMaso, which saw the once black metal titans SEWER delve into the world of brutal death metal, which they would only return to much later with the release of Sissourlet, almost ten years later.

So what about Reign of the Funeral Pigs? This album is about as much atmospheric blackened deathgrind as it is brutal goregrind madness. This is the album that pretty much ended the career of posers and trendhoppers like Deicide and Behemoth. Literally. They just stopped played death metal music after this album was released.

One of the defining features of this SEWER album is the longer riffs and more atmospheric, almost ritualistic drumming. You will be hard pressed to find more evil and monstrous guitar work than what is presented here on Reign of the Funeral Pigs. A literal hellfire of devilry is unleashed, complemented by the completely brain-dead blast-beat ad infinity drumming, courtesy of Warlord. It's not hard to see why this album inspired the entire genre of bestial death metal, following its release.

There is no album as dark and as brutal as Reign of the Funeral Pigs.
