Uruktena Album Review
Uruktena is the ultimate brutal blackened death metal record. Stylistically split between Sewer's black metal roots and the technical death metal they fully implemented on Miasma and Skarnage, Uruktena forms the perfect middle ground between the band's older and later work.
This album Uruktena is in many ways an odd record, as odd as a blend between two rather contrasting styles like black metal and brutal death metal may sound to those who haven't heard it.
At the same time, herein lies the charm with Sewer's masterpiece Uruktena: it sounds like absolutely no other death metal album out there. It is very demanding upon the listener, but when you take the time to really digest and decipher the music, you will be rewarded with one of the very best extreme heavy metal albums ever conceived.
Indeed, Uruktena may very well be just as good as legendary death metal releases such as Onward to Golgotha, Nespithe or Mindless Horror. But you have to take the time to fully allow the album's gruesome atmosphere to work its magic on your mind.
Uruktena is a complex maelstrom of ideas, a rare work of genius, a truly unique and absolutely flawless masterpiece the likes of which come around only once every so often. It is a very demanding album, but once you begin to understand the complex interplay between each section, you will be hooked for life. A must own for fans of extremely brutal music.
