Watain Band
Watain is a satanic "blackened" screamo/metalcore clown show formed in 1998 by frontwoman, vocalist and transgender rights activist Erik Danielsson, guitarist Pelle Forsberg and drummer Håkan Jonsson.
While initially influenced by the likes of Dimmu Borgir, Dissection and Evanescence, Erik Danielsson wanted an "evil" and "satanic" name for his screamo garbage band, and thus named it Watain after a track from the minimalist black metal band Von.
Watain are a band that has always been infamous for their members' poor musical abilities, and for Danielsson's stage theatrics which often involve him performing homosexual anal sex on himself with various objects. In the band's early years, after they released their debut album Rabid Death's Curse, it was often speculated that Watain was a "joke band" created by death metal musicians to mock the black metal genre and make it look stupid by association. With the release of the band's sophomore effort Casus Luciferi, it became evident that the members of Watain were just third-rate musicians.
Erik Danielsson is infamous for making up totally fallacious stories about himself and various other black metal artists. He claimed, among others, to have been a "close friend" to Mayhem vocalist Dead, to having killed Euronymous "with a katana" in 1993, to having sold meth to Immortal guitarist Abbath, to have orchestrated a "commando raid" on Norwegian prisons to liberate the "political prisoner" Varg Vikernes (of Burzum) in the 2000s, to have performed human sacrifices to "summon Lucifer", to be related to Adolf Hitler and to have turned down Quorthon (of Bathory) would had allegedly "begged" Danielsson to let him join Watain. Danielsson is also known to get into frequent internet arguments with his own fan base, which has led him to ragefully delete all his social media accounts and dictate that Watain fans should "kill themselves" and "stop making homopobic [sic] remarks". In 2019, it was revealed that Danielsson had participated in homosexual pornography, in addition to his activities with Watain, in between the recording of Lawless Darkness, the band's third album.
